The Queen Deyna Tournament took place last Saturday, an event that brings to life the dream of promoting women’s sports in Venezuela. Organized by the foundation under the leadership of footballer Deyna Castellanos and its director Alejandra Blasco, the Queen Deyna Tournament brought together four teams in a day filled with emotion, camaraderie, and sports development.

Alejandra Blasco expressed her joy after more than a year of hard work to ensure that the girls could enjoy the tournament, beyond competitive results. “The important thing is that they live this experience,” she stated. She also highlighted the support of strategic partners such as Empresas Polar, Tag Publicidad, and Nike, the main sponsor of star player Deyna Castellanos, which has been key to bringing this project to life.

The tournament format included two semifinals, a third-place match, and the grand final, all held in a single day. The champions were AFF Yurubi, who defeated ACF San Ignacio 2–1 in a very closely contested match. The semifinals were decided by penalties: AFF Yurubi eliminated ADIFFEM 3–0, while ACF San Ignacio defeated SECA SPORT 5–3. Each team received recognitions, and the players were presented with trophies, 15 balls, and bags for each athlete, personally handed out by Deyna Castellanos.

At the press conference prior to the tournament, Deyna Castellanos expressed deep pride and happiness at seeing young female footballers fulfill a dream she could not experience in her childhood. “I didn’t have the opportunity to play with girls; I played with boys, and now seeing that there is a formed team that reached the final is something that fills me with emotion because through us, women’s football in Venezuela exists and is supported,” she stated.

Regarding the selection of the participating teams, Alejandra Blasco explained that the idea for the tournament and the choice of four teams stemmed from the intention of providing concrete opportunities in Venezuela, with the vision of growing and expanding internationally. “We want this project to continue growing, with teams from all over the country and the world, because our foundation has a global reach,” she added.

Regarding her role as a role model for young female footballers, Deyna also emphasized the importance of supporting not only the sporting aspect but also the educational one. She stressed that this combination was the formula that led her to achieve her successes and that the foundation maintains a firm commitment to university scholarships and the training of young athletes, a path they have been implementing for five years.

The Queen Deyna Legacy Tournament represented a significant step forward for women’s football in Venezuela, with the intention of continuing to sow talent, opportunities, and dreams in new generations, encouraged by the example and support of an iconic figure such as Deyna Castellanos.
